Pre-Qing Ming Bi Luo Chun, Golden Mountain, Lake Tai, Suzhou, China 2011
Larger image
These are tiny leaves from a small leaf varietal from Golden Mountain which lies in the middle of Lake Tai. This tea tastes like sweet green grass and fresh sea salt air. While this is an ultra premium varietal and extremely sweet because it's so fresh, it has a savory quality that is distinctive of Bi Luo Chun. Originally this tea was called "scary fragrance" because the smell was so unique, but it was later re-named and Bi Luo Chun means Green Snail Spring. It is one of China's ten famous teas.
